NYPD to be Audited for Language Barriers

The Justice Department is currently auditing the NYPD to evaluate their strategy for communicating with non-English speakers. This audit is part of an investigation into language barriers during police encounters, and whether or not they lead to civil rights violations. The audit will examine if language barriers affect things like filling out complaints or emergency calls. New York is one of many language audits currently taking place across the country.
