Social media monitoring company Semiocast has released an eye-opening study about the languages used on Twitter. Not surprisingly, tweets remain to be dominated by the English language. However, the study revealed that Arabic is the fastest-growing language on Twitter.

In October 2011 more than 2 million tweets were posted every day on Twitter in Arabic, up from about 30,000 per day in July 2010!

The study, which analyzed about 5.6 billion tweets between July, 1st 2010 and October, 31st 2011, found that 39% of tweets were posted in English, with Japanese trailing distantly as the second most used language on Twitter with 14%.
