Interpreter Spotlight – Serge B.

Please read below to learn more about Serge B., a court certified French Interpreter in LSA’s network known for his reliability, professionalism and positive, can-do attitude. As a partner of LSA’s since 2004, Serge is often called on for legal, medical, insurance, immigration and utilities interpretation calls. The LSA team also relies on Serge to conduct thorough and ethical evaluations of new interpreters interested in joining LSA’s network of global linguists.

What initially inspired you to pursue a career in professional interpretation? What continues to inspire you today?

I decided to pursue a career in the interpretation field because I wanted to use the knowledge I had acquired as a language teacher and translator in the field of communication. I still believe that communication is the answer! Language barriers divide people. Interpretation brings people together from all over the world to a place of better understanding and knowledge.

What is your favorite part about interpreting?

My favorite part about interpreting is enabling people to communicate and understand each other. I always aim to provide the best customer service experience possible, so that LSA’s clients can provide quality service to their clients and end-users. I also enjoy leveraging the unique qualities that are necessary to provide professional interpretation services (i.e., strong analytical, listening, concentration and memory skills, mental stamina, etc.).

As a partner of LSA’s, how do you bring passion, purpose and a positive, can-do attitude to all of your interpretation assignments?

I am motivated by the goals of LSA. I know that what we do matters. Our services are helping people survive and thrive in today’s global environment.

Would you be willing to share a special story about how you made a real difference in someone’s life by providing interpretation services?

There are so many examples because we are in the business of helping people. That’s what we do every day, on every call we take and every assignment we accept. One example that springs to mind involves helping a Limited English Proficient patient understand something that was essential for his recovery from the English speaking clinician.

When you’re not interpreting for LSA, what are some of the things you enjoy doing on your free time?

I enjoy spending time with my wife and family playing cards and board games, and exercising once in a while!

Here’s what Michele Berrios, LSA’s Vendor Procurement Manager, had to say about Serge and his contributions to LSA:
