flag2Cihai, the dictionary of the Chinese language, has published its sixth edition just in time for National Day on October 1st.  The new edition, which took 5 years to compile, has more than 127,200 entries and more than 16,000 pictures.  Seven thousand outdated or rarely used terms have been removed and about 12,300 terms added.  The new edition of Cihai will be available for sale in major cities like Beijing and Shanghai during the National Day holiday.

National Day was declared at three o’clock on October 1, 1949, in front of 300,000 people during a ceremony in Tiananmen Square.  It is the anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.  Workers receive holidays around October 1st, usually resulting in a week-long holiday period where people travel home to see family or go abroad for a vacation.
