UC Berkeley Asks Incoming Students to Say More Than “Hello”

Freshman orientation for new incoming UC Berkeley students will be a little different than their counterparts at other Universities. Berkeley Freshmen are being asked to submit a recording of their voice, in English and via the web, prior to their arrival on campus.

The project, called “Voices of Berkeley,” creates a unique bonding opportunity for the class of 2015 and the recordings can be used to study the relationship between demographics and Linguistics.

One of the participants, Chloe Hunt, an incoming Berkeley Freshman, said the project made her curious to meet her new classmates. “It made me think about who I’m going to be sitting next to in class.”
