Longest Serving Federal Court Interpreter Retires

1216inter.embedded.prod_affiliate.56The longest serving Interpreter in the U.S. Federal Court, Angel Luis Nigaglioni, has retired after a 35-year career.  Angel was best known for providing the Spanish language voice-over for presidential speeches during the Reagan administration and translating on behalf of Pope John Paul II when he visited Miami in 1987.  Additionally, Angel played a large part in a number of high-profile proceedings in Southern Florida, such as the trial of Gen. Manuel Noriega, the former military dictator of Panama.

When asked about his career as a court Interpreter, Nigaglioni, 70, responded “I have seen everything. It is a fascinating profession in that every day you learn something, not just about language but about the human condition.”  A native of Cuba, Angel became well versed in the idioms and slang of virtually of every Spanish speaking country in the Caribbean and Latin America, as well as the common terminologies associated with all levels of organized crime.  It was Angel’s breadth of Linguistic knowledge that led him to become such a widely successful courtroom Interpreter.
