Hundreds of Linguists from around the globe are gathering at the University of California, Berkley, through August 13 for the 65th International Institute.  Hosted by UC Berkley’s Linguistics Department and the Linguistic Society of America, the International Institute is designed to bring Linguists together for a host of networking and educational activities.  For three to six weeks, about 600 Linguists will be staying on campus and participating in a series of courses, workshops, conferences and lecture series.  A myriad of language-related topics will be explored, such as where grammar comes from and what infants learn before they talk.

The last time UC Berkley hosted this event was in 1951.  The very first International Institute took place at Yale University in 1928.
