Duden

Approximately 5,000 new words have been added to the German language, many of them inspired by English.  The new words appear in the latest edition of Duden, the German dictionary that was first published in 1880 with just 27,000 words.

The financial crisis has inspired many of the new words.  Appearing in the German dictionary for the first time are “Kreditklemme” (credit crunch) and “”Konjunkturpaket” (stimulus package).  The German language is known for its extremely long compound nouns.
